After a short reveal earlier this week, Activision shares more details about its upcoming Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 game, alongside a few screenshots depicting the impressive visuals possible in the upcoming experience.

Activision's skateboarding simulator series made in partnership with Tony Hawk has delighted millions of fans over the years, but recent installments have fallen short of recreating the experience from the early 2000s, instead relying on lackluster peripherals to add more realism.

Pro Skater 5 brings back core principles

After a well-received Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD, which brought together some of the best mechanics from the series, Activision's Robomodo team confirms that it's working on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5.

After having shared a few brief information earlier this week, Activision shares way more details on its blog, confirming the combo-driven gameplay and the presence of open-ended levels filled with different elements that can be used to pull off a trick.

The publisher also mentions that Pro Skater 5 allows players to take control of famous athletes in the discipline, starting with, of course, Tony Hawk, and continuing with Nyjah Huston, Riley Hawk, Aaron Homoki, Ishod Wair, Leticia Bufoni, Chris Cole, David Gonzalez, Andrew Reynolds, and Lizzie Armanto.

Quite a few new things are also coming with the title

However, besides delivering older principles used by the series in its heyday, Pro Skater 5 is also introducing new gameplay elements, like power-ups, projectiles, and a seamless online multiplayer. This allows players to drop in and out of sessions with friends or others from all around the world.

The game can, of course, be played offline or online, as players can complete missions to unlock new content or go head-to-head against others for a spot on the leaderboards.

Imaginative fans can also build their own skateparks and share them with the community.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 is coming to PS4 and Xbox One, but a separate version is also going to debut for the PS3 and Xbox 360, although it's unclear how it will compare to the current-generation editions.

Until more details surface, check out the new screenshots below.
