The amazing Cyndi Lauper won a prestigious Tony Award at the 2013 ceremony last night, for her Broadway debut as composer and lyricist, the critically acclaimed “Kinky Boots.”

Above is her acceptance speech and, as you would expect from such an amazing woman, it’s equally beautiful. Touching, too.

“I can’t say I wasn't practicing in front of the shower curtain for a couple of days for this speech,” Cyndi admitted when she got on stage, after a few initial moments of being completely overwhelmed.

“I gotta thank my mom for sharing all that wonderful music. I wrecked all her Broadway musicals when I was a kid, the cast albums. That's how I learned how to sing,” she added.

She also thanked her people, her collaborators, and everyone involved on “Kinky Boots,” to the end result that, by the time she was done, there were plenty of people tearing up in the audience.

“Boots” won a total of six awards, including for Best Musical.
