The best of all: its price will go down again, once Sony releases the new and improved PSP

The PSP hasn't had an easy life, which is approaching an end unfortunately, as Sony is working on the revamped model as we speak, prepping an August launch (or so say the rumors). The main reason is Nintendo's DS, its rival. It sports an insane lineup of titles and it's just a damn fun console. But there still are some good reasons for you to acquire one.

Apparently, throughout its life, the PSP has gathered quite a bunch of good titles, downloadable stuff and other titles ported from other consoles, oh and let's not forget that Sony's portable device still has to see God of War: Chains of Olympus. There are at least five main reasons (out of a total of 60) for a person to start thinking of getting a PSP now, as PSP Fanboy has put up a list of such reasons.

1. "Games: "The library features some real gems, such as Lumines, Wipeout, Grand Theft Auto, and Tekken: Dark Resurrection ... a quick look down the horizon reveals a plethora of Final Fantasy titles, a new God of War, Syphon Filter, Castlevania, Silent Hill, and more." 2. PSone classics: "The advent of the PSP Store later this year, we're confident that even more great games are going to come out." 3. Downloadable demos: "Who doesn't like playing games ... especially when they're free?" 4. Great homebrew games: "Upcoming titles like No Gravity show an unstoppable momentum for this underground movement." 5. Play Flash games on the go: "Love a Flash game on the web? The PSP can play that as well. In fact, some developers have even created Flash games specifically for PSP's widescreen."

What do you say? Is everything listed above reason enough to spend some 160 Euros/ $170 on a Sony handheld device. I'd say it is, and there are more reasons, some not so orthodox, that make one want a PSP, if you know what I mean. Eh what the heck, I'll just say it: modding it! Once you've modded it you can practically turn it into every console up to the PSP's generation whether it's N64 or the original PlayStation platform. Plus, you can watch movies and run other apps on it. No one's saying you should mod your PSP, but who can resist it? Plus, no soldering and wiring is involved, so the risks are minimal. Well, if you're not caught that is.

And if some of you still need a good solid reason to get a PSP, just wait for Sony to release the lighter one. Then the original PSP will be so cheap that everyone on the planet will get one.
