Rise of the Tomb Raider might be delayed

The team at publisher Square Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics are announcing that the Tomb Raider reboot experience that it launched in 2013 has managed to go past the 8.5 million copies sold mark recently, becoming the best-seller of the entire franchise.

The game also performed better than its older siblings during the first day and the first month on the market.

Its long-term appeal was helped by the launch of the Definitive Edition, which was introduced in January on both the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony, bringing the experience to the attention of players once more.

The new version has more content included and improved graphics.

Darrell Gallagher, the leader of Crystal Dynamics, states, "Tomb Raider ignited and expanded the fan base, pushing the series to a new level. The game's incredible sales success reflects the passionate response of players."

The Tomb Raider reboot re-introduces gamers to the character of Lara Croft and shows how trauma and tough conditions turn her into a fighter and a capable explorer.

Some fans have criticized the game for the way it initially treated the character and for a scene that was considered too focused on physical abuse.

Others have praised the core gameplay and the way it managed to make the Tomb Raider attractive for a new generation of players.

Rise of the Tomb Raiders is an Xbox One and Xbox 360 exclusive

The new title in the franchise is only launched on Microsoft devices as a result of a deal that was announced in 2014.

The game should be introduced in the fall, but no official date has been announced so far, and the relative lack of marketing might be a sign that a delay into 2016 is being prepared.

Rise of the Tomb Raider might be launched on the PlayStation 4 and the PC after it arrives on the Xbox One, but Square Enix has not confirmed this.

Limited information about the game is available at the moment, but it seems that Lara Croft will get to explore a set of new locations as she continues to evolve as a treasure hunter and fighter.

Crystal Dynamics has already suggested that it will keep many of the ideas from the first title, while trying to find new ways to challenge the fan community.
