Scott Amos, the executive producer working on Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, says that the new version of the game is designed to show off how well the Lara Croft character and the unique mechanics associated with her can make the move to the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft.

The new version of the game is designed to include all the content that was made available to fans since the game was first launched in early 2013.

He is quoted by VG247 as saying that, “It’s us putting our hands around the entire franchise, everything we’ve done to date, all the content in the one space so we could maximise our build – to say this is what our first steps on next-gen look like, here’s what our first step at a new Lara Croft could look like for next-gen.”

Crystal Dynamics believes that all new technology should be embraced as soon as possible in order for the team to have the time to understand its core elements.

Launching Tomb Raider Definitive Edition on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One means that the studio has the time to improve its development process and make sure that the next Lara Croft title will look even better.

Amos adds, “This was a lot of money and a lot of time, all of us putting a lot of money and our hearts and souls into it and saying ‘let’s take this game that we really love, that we put everything into last time, and make it for these new platforms’.”

The reboot of the Lara Croft franchise makes the main character more vulnerable and creates a story arc during which she discovers her ability to deal with a hostile world.

The game was well received by critics and it is likely that a full sequel is already in development.
