A new version of this application has been released

Tomahawk is a new music player that aims to put the music at users’ fingertips by providing online sources for the library collection. It's still in development, but for now it looks like it's already a winner.

The Tomahawk music player uses online services like Grooveshark or Beets, for example, to provide users with the music they want, without having to keep a local library of songs.

Most of the stuff that you are listening to is already available online through the dozens of services, so Tomahawk integrates the APIs to interact with those services from a single interface.

Even if you don't actually need a local library to listen to music, that doesn't mean that the application can't play from one. Users can just as well use their own files with the app, just like they would do with a normal, offline one.

Tomahawk is one of the most beautiful music players, period

The application has been made available on all the major platforms, including Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X. Its interface has been perfectly balanced with all the implemented features and the main function of the player has been placed dead center, to show what it's capable of.

"Stop chasing music across the web - to services you don't use, or sources you don't have access to. Given the name or link to a song, album or playlist, Tomahawk will find the best available source for you and just play it. Add your favorite music subscription services, music promotion platforms, networked libraries, cloud storage, music data providers, social networks and more."

"Connect to your friends to browse and play their libraries, playlists and stations - or just listen along to whatever they are playing. See and hear what is new and loved across your network. Drop songs to share with your friends - or better yet check your inbox to listen to everything that's been shared with you," reads the official website.

To be fair, online integration in music players is not something new and there is some competition out there, but the devs that made Tomahawk managed to turn this application into something special by integrating a ton of services and by providing a beautiful interface.

This is still not a stable app, but users can download Tomahawk 0.8 from Softpedia and give it a try. It's available in numerous formats and it will work on any Linux distro.
