A GPS system with phone capabilities

With so many mobile phones that are starting to incorporate a GPS receiver, like Nokia's recently released N95 and 6110 SatNav phones, Tom Tom is set to announce the opposite, the new Tom Tom GO 715 SatNav system that accepts a SIM card and can be used to mail and receive mobile phone calls.

The device also features Bluetooth support for handsfree calling, just like its predecessor, the Tom Tom GO 710. Tom Tom's new GPS system has leaked through the FCC, so they are the ones to thank for all this information.

Apparently, the 715 is an upgrade that was developed to target the business market with software that allows the user to receive and manage orders and communicate with the office regarding the status of the orders.

With more advanced Tom Tom's in Korea already having the ability to play video clips, including mobile phone capabilities is not a surprise or great step forward, but just the logical thing to do.

The only possible inconvenience would be the need for a second SIM to hold in the Tom Tom, or having to always switch the SIM card from the mobile phone to the Tom Tom while in the car. But this shouldn't be a problem for most people and it's likely that Tom Tom has thought of this when developing the 715, thus being able to provide a solution.

This is just about all the information that is available until now, but the device should be on display at CeBIT where more details will probably be revealed, like the availability or price tag of the Tom Tom GO 715.
