The lawsuit was sparked by allegations of the “Life & Style” magazine that Tom Cruise had “abandoned” his daughter Suri with actress Katie Holmes. Since then, the actor has filed legal action with Bauer Media, the parent company of the magazine, claiming $50 million (€36.6 million) in damages.

Tom Cruise's lawyer now claims that the actor and the publishing giant have reached a settlement in the defamation lawsuit. Bertram Fields, the lawyer for Cruise, said that the details of the settlement are confidential but did add that the magazine “never intended to communicate that tom Cruise had cut off all ties and abandoned his daughter, Suri, and regret if anyone drew inference from anything they published.”

In 2012, at the time of his divorce from actress Katie Holmes, “Life & Style” and “In Touch” magazine, both owned by the Bauer Media corporation, went on to publish allegations that Cruise had “abandoned” his daughter Suri. This infuriated the actor, who decided to take legal action.

His lawyer declared at the time that “Tom doesn't go around suing people. He's not a letigious guy. But when these sleaze peddlers try to make money with disgusting lies about his relationship with his child, you bet he's going to sue.”

In a filed declaration, Tom stated that “I have in no way cut Suri out of my life – whether physically, emotionally, financially or otherwise.”

Cruise's name is still linked to a lawsuit involving the controversial church of Scientology where several people are testifying that heads of the church would force them into labor camps and sometimes put them at Cruise's disposal for various tasks on minimum income. These tasks would run from building homes for the actor, repairing cars, or performing maid, cooking and baby-sitting services for him.
