Actor decided to turn his life around when his son was born last April

At his heaviest, actor Tom Arnold weighed 287 pounds (130 kg) and was struggling with depression and overeating problems. Today, after shedding an impressive 89 pounds (40.3 kg), he is healthier, happier, and glad to share his story of success with the world.

It all started when, after years of trying to conceive, Tom and his wife Ashley welcomed their first child together, a baby boy who was born last April. It was then that he decided to actively do something to change his life for the better, having realized that his son deserved a healthy dad.

“I can tuck my shirt in!,” Tom gushes in an interview with the latest issue of People magazine, which also includes a photo of the actor showing off his slimmer figure. You can see that photo also attached to this article.

“Something inside of me changed. I knew I needed to live as long as I could,” Arnold says of the change that occurred when his son was born. “The moment I saw [Jax] I realized he deserves the best,” he adds.

That was just the beginning, because he practically had to change everything about his lifestyle until then. His breakfast for instance, he tells the mag, included a 6-egg omelet with cheese, 6 turkey sausage links, and oatmeal.

For dinner, he’d have an extra-large double meat pizza and breadsticks with cheese. Throughout the day, he’d drink about 15 sodas, and all this contributed to his huge daily calorie intake, which helped his weight balloon.

“There was a lot of shame. One time I had a tailor come over and sew the weights into my suits – this is what you wear when you are 210, 220, 240, 300. That saved me the time of going into my closet and getting so upset and frustrated,” he says.

He replaced his unhealthy meals with healthier options, ditched the soda and the bread and all the sugary treats, and started getting regular exercise like circuit training, cardio, and abdominal workouts. However, nothing beats playing around with his son when it comes to favorite workout.

“I have tons more energy to play with my son,” the star laughs.
