Tokyoflash is adding a new wooden model to its collection of bizarre watches

Tokyo Flash is a Japanese watchmaker that loves to make really hard-to-read timepieces and embed them with atypical features.

Now the company has just launched its latest model, the Kisai Xtal Wood, which as the name suggests arrives with a natural wooden case and faceted mineral crystal lens.

And compared to other Tokyo Flash watches we have seen so far, the LED display is actually pretty readable.

There are two modes programmable into the Kisai Xtal Wood timepiece. The first one is Regular Time mode, which shows the time using a row of four stylized hexagonal LED digits.

However, if you want the customary Tokyo Flash treatment, you can immediately switch to Cryptic Mode. This, in turn, will bring about LED shapes that look reminiscent of an alien alphabet.

Actually, Cryptic Mode displays the same digital numbers but removes the middle line. An exception to the rule is the 8 digit, but once you have learned it, you shouldn't have any problems reading the time.

The watch has been crafted from 100% natural wood and is extremely light, weighing just 72 g / 0.15 lbs. The timepiece also comes with an adjustable strap, so it should be suitable for smaller and larger wrists alike.

The watch has been coated for protection and enhanced durability. Like with many TokyoFlash watches, the Kisai Xtal Wood offers a selection between six animation patterns.

After you select which animation you want to go for, your choice will light up the display every 15 minutes between 6pm and midnight. However, those who find this feature annoying should know it can be turned off in the Settings section.

When the battery runs out, you’ll be able to pump some juice back in your watch by virtue of using a USB capable to connect to your computer.

A full charge can take as long as 3.5 hours, but then you’ll be good to go for 2 months, before you have to come back to replenish your time-piece.

The Kisai Xtal Wood is available in dark sandalwood with red and green LEDs or in maple with blue or white LEDs.

We should also note, this is a limited edition watch design and customers can choose between two different time display modes, date mode, alarm and six under-selectable animations (as we mentioned above).

To celebrate the launch, Tokyo Flash is awarding the watch at the special price of $109 / €80 in the first 48 hours. If you’re interested in grabbing one of these atypical watches, you should hurry up because you have only 42 hours left.
