A 4-year-old toddler from Xi'an, Shaanxi province, China shocked his parents after he tore to shreds their hard-worked life-long savings. The boy developed a bizarre passion of ripping things apart after his parents bought cheap books for him to shred, in order to keep him entertained.

The little ripper was left alone in the bedroom of his house and, in his search for entertainment, he found a box hidden under the bed. The curious toddler opened the box and found it was filled with money, seeing it as paper just fit for him to shred to pieces.

The boy's parents were shocked at the sight of $3000 (€2200) ripped to pieces on their bedroom floor. All their savings were spread around the room, resting in small pieces on around their 4-year-old that seemed to have a blast.

The couple figured out that, by allowing their child to rip books as entertainment, they led to the development of a destructive habit. Besides the fact that other family members warned them about the downsides of keeping their son busy by giving him books to ruin, they didn't see anything wrong in the joy the kid got from destroying things.

“We didn't really care when he ripped up the old books we had laying around, and it was easy to buy very cheap old books down the market which he happily ripped into small pieces. I thought if I left him alone with a book for an hour it would be no problem,” the 4-year-old's mother says, according to Daily Mail.

The family was saving money in order to buy a new apartment for the New Year and didn't think for even one moment that their son would find the money box and tear it to pieces. Luckily for them, they found a bank willing to accept the torn-up notes and exchange them for new ones. The event made the toddler's parents realize that their son's habit has some destructive effects and that they should start working towards correcting it.
