PMA 2008 has the key

Once again, thanks to the unquenchable thirst for rumors of some gearheads we have some interesting, possibly real news on some DSLRs from the less popular camera manufacturers Samsung and Sony.

Let's get started with Samsung. Apparently, the GX-20 digital single lens reflex camera surfaced on a Norwegian website that publishes CES-related press releases of Samsung's point and shoot models. That information is no longer available at aronsen.no (the Norwegian web site), but photographybay.com managed to get one image and some specs. Now, we're not guaranteeing they are real, but it seems that the GX-20 will be fitted with a 14.6 CMOS sensor with image stabilization, a live view system, weather sealing and a 2.7 inches.

You couldn't possibly be unaware of the partnership between Pentax and Samsung, which actually materialized in some rebadged versions of Pentax DSLRs and you might also recall our previous article on the imminent release of the Pentax K20D. In you don't, here's an excerpt from the article: "The flagship model, the K20D, will supposedly boast a brand new proprietary CMOS sensor with no less than 14 megapixels. Pentax must have realized, just as Nikon did (although nobody knows for sure who's the manufacturer behind 35mm full-frame FX sensor), that it was about time to develop their own sensor for the flagship model. The new imaging unit goes hand in hand with a fresh 14-bit Raw A/D image processor that will probably yield better tonal gradations and dynamic range."

So, this new Samsung GX20 might be in fact the rebadged version of the Pentax K20D or a slightly similar version. Anyway, one thing's for sure. Both companies have something in store for the PMA 2008.

The second rumored DSLR is the A300, which is more of a certainty than the GX20 or the K20D, especially since the pics seem to be real. Moreover, the recently announced A200 is not quite a significant improvement over the existing A100 and the price gap is quite generous between the A200 and the A700. Clearly, there's room for an intermediate model between the two.

Allegedly, the new model will be called A300 and, as you can in see in the attached image, it will be the first in the Alpha lineup to feature a swivel-type LCD. PMA 2008 will probably hold the answers for both DSLRs.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
