Missile Command and Centipede will be launched soon

The development team at Respawn Entertainment and publisher Electronic Arts have found an innovative way to promote their coming Titanfall shooter using a new site that currently delivers a mech-centered remake of the classic Asteroids and will soon also feature Centipede and Missile Command.

The link between the new promotional effort and the coming multiplayer-focused title is clear, but most fans will probably fail to understand why the two companies are currently only offering one of the classic titles.

It’s highly unlikely that any modern shooter fan will actively return to the Titanfall promotional effort in the coming days, hoping and testing if the mech-powered versions of Missile Command and Centipede have been unlocked.

The official tagline of the site is “8-bit is better with a Titan,” which will certainly prompt a strong reaction from fans of the original titles, widely seen as classics that should not be tampered with.

Those who have played the Asteroids Titanfall version are also saying that the game weirdly seems to make the mech invulnerable, which means that the player always wins, even if he is unable to register a high score.

This flies directly against the philosophy of the title, which has long been known for its unforgiving difficulty level, which has shaped many generations of players.

Titanfall is currently set to be launched on March 11 in the United States and March 13 in Europe, on the Xbox One home console from Microsoft and on the PC.

Those who are interested in playing it on the Xbox 360 will have to wait an extra two weeks in order to give the team handling the port a chance to polish the experience.

The title is not designed to add cross-platform play, and Respawn Entertainment has said that it does not have plans to add the feature in the near future.

Titanfall is designed to focus on a 6 versus 6 multiplayer experience that will also involve the titular giant mechs and Artificial Intelligence-powered enemies, with an emphasis on movement and tactical thinking.

In order to prepare for the launch Microsoft has delivered an official firmware update for the Xbox One that upgrades the multiplayer matchmaking and changes how player parties are used.

Electronic Arts and Respawn have also confirmed that a Season Pass for their game is being offered, which will deliver three downloadable content packs to the title for the price of 29.99 dollars or Euro.
