2012 is expected to bring a series of interesting changes in the technology area, especially with Microsoft preparing the launch of Windows 8 and Windows Server 8.

The release of new technologies means getting accustomed with new ways of staying organized and remain productive, though there are also some actions that you can always perform on your device, even when running an older Windows version.

For example, you can always make sure that your photos are kept in good order both on your PC and into the cloud. You can also get rid of old stuff that might not be of use in time, thus creating space for new files.

One way to keep photos organized is the Window Live Photo Gallery, which also enables you to create, edit and share photos without too much hassle.

Photos can be kept organized either by date or using tags, and can even be shared on social networks straight from the Window Live Photo Gallery.

Not to mention that one can also modify photos using the Retouch feature in the Photo Gallery, or via the Photo Fuse feature, which can combine various aspects of existing photos into a single picture.

Another way to be better organized and remain productive is to get rid of the older files or even of the older computer you are using, especially if a new PC was offered to you.

“Many people don’t know where to recycle their old technology and so they simply keep it in a dark dusty closet,” Microsoft’s Kristina Libby notes in a blog post.

“To be honest, it’s simple to recycle. You can recycle most still functioning PCs at one of the Microsoft Store locations. However, there are also other places to recycle that might be closer to your home listed here and most Best Buys will do it!”

It is simple and easy to have icons organized on your desktop as well, especially if you are running Windows 7. There is the little “Show desktop” button on the right side of the taskbar. When the mouse pointer is over it, all windows will become transparent, so that you can have a glimpse at the desktop fast and easy.

While on the go, you can have access to your files through SkyDrive. A wide variety of files can be uploaded to it, including photos, documents, videos and music, all easily accessible via web browsers. And there is also the Windows Hotmail Calendar to stay on top of daily activities wherever you are.
