The first smartphone to run Google's new Android operating system, G1 has been finally discontinued. Still, the device is one of the best in its class, even if the newly arrived Nexus, Desire, Droid are more powerful and functional. With all the bad things that it had G1 is the mother of all and will be remembered as the first phone carrying the revolutionary Android platform.

Here are a few tips and trick that I managed to gather, and some more that I have experienced while playing with a G1 smartphone. Feel free to add more tips and tricks for the G1, or anything that mught be useful for G1 users.

The G1 is one of the few Android smartphone to feature a hardware Search button. You can click on it to bring up a Google search, or if you're using any Google related program, clicking it will bring up the specific search service of that particular application.

If you want to alt-tab between the applications, simply press and hold the home button. This will bring up a window that will show your 6 most recent applications.

When using the browser, you can activate the magnify glass more easily by clicking twice on the trackball.

Remember that the Menu button will give you access to extra setting/options when you press it while you have any application open. Long pressing the green Accept calls key will let you use the voice dial feature.

To copy/paste a text, just use the QWERTY keyboard like this: to Cut, press Menu and X, to Copy, press Menu and C, to Paste, press Menu and V.

To save a picture in web browser, simply click and hold your finger over the image for about 3 seconds. A small menu will pop-up, where you can choose to save the picture. You can also fast scroll while in the browser, by holding down the ALT key and rolling the trackball.
