He wears shades as he is probably aware of the fact that there are CCTV cameras pointed at him during this stunt.
With a swift movement he grabs the jar, then places it in the large bag that he surely planned to bring along in advance.
I don't know why his bag is so large, but I guess that he could be going on a tip jar robbing spree.
