It is quite different from the other camera that the company released just now

Pentax has chosen to update its entire photo and video camera portfolio, instead of launching cameras one by one. We've seen the K-50 DSLR, so now we can examine the Q7 Interchangeable-Lens Camera.

Although calling it an Interchangeable-Lens Camera might be a stretch, given how incredibly small it is.

Verily, it would be called a simple Point-and-Shoot camera if it didn't, in fact, have the ability to change the lens.

“Don’t be fooled by the Q7’s small size and 120 color combinations,” said Jim Malcolm, executive vice president, Pentax Ricoh Imaging.

“As the smallest and lightest compact system camera in the world, this tiny gem is packed with serious specs and capabilities including a number of digital filters and smart effects.”

The Pentax Q7 goes inside a pocket easily (unless you're wearing very tight-fitting pants) and uses the equally new 07 Mount Shield lens.

The seventh in the Q mount series, this lens “produces a truly unique and timeless visual effect” and has a focusing range of 0.7-2m.

For anyone who wants further specifics, there are 19 smart effects and filters and seven lenses.

What's more, Pentax has chosen to apply the Color To Order system to the camera, allowing customers to choose how it should be colored. It will go a long way to meeting everyone's personal tastes.

The “retro look and feel” should win some people over too, although some might not find it as appealing as others.

“Setting a new standard in the imaging industry, the Q7 incorporates a growing trend among consumer products: customization,” Pentax wrote in its announcement. Having 120 different colors to choose from definitely fits the idea of customization.

The Pentax Q7 camera with 02 zoom lens can be ordered for $499.95 / €499.95 from Pentax's website. Retailers and street stores will get it in August 2013. The 07 Mount Shield lens sells for $79.95 / €79.95.
