14 DAY TRIAL // Apple has posted a Support piece prompting users of Time Capsule (Early 2009) or AirPort Extreme (Early 2009) to check and see whether they have the newest version of the AirPort utility installed. If not, users are encouraged to do so, as updating to AirPort Utility 5.4.1 or later will offer best results for “expected features.”
“You should only use AirPort Utility 5.4, or later, with your AirPort Extreme (Early 2009) or Time Capsule (Early 2009),” Apple says in the document. “Earlier versions of AirPort Utility may not offer expected features or may not be able to configure your hardware properly, and should not be used,” the Mac maker warns.
To check which version of the AirPort Utility you currently have installed on your Mac, you must open AirPort Utility (located in /Application/Utilities) and choose About AirPort Utility from the AirPort Utility menu. Needless to point out, if you don't have version 5.4 or later, you should install it from the disc that came with your product, or download the latest version using the link below. Apple describes AirPort Utility 5.4.1 as the simple to use setup and management utility for the AirPort Express Base Station, the AirPort Extreme Base Station and Time Capsule. “Use AirPort Utility to setup and manage the following products,” the company says, listing the above-mentioned devices (AirPort Express and AirPort Extreme Base Stations, and Time Machine's sidekick, Time Capsule). The update is 17.40MB in size and is to be applied on systems running Mac OS X 10.4 or later. Supported languages include Deutsch, English, Français, Chinese, Español, Italiano, Nederlands, Dansk, Norsk Bokmål, Polski, Português, Pусский, Suomi, Svensk, Simplified Chinese, etc.
