There is a possibility

In the gaming industry, some people evolved from just game creators and shaped the whole branch of entertainment with their unique ideas and interesting concept about video games and life in general. One such man is Tim Schafer, the creator behind titles such as Psychonauts or Grim Fandango, who currently has under production the heavy-metal-themed adventure title Brutal Legend.

He recently talked about the future game with 1Up and he tackled a very interesting matter, the possibility that the story would branch out in other titles. Schafer publicly made it clear that he didn't like sequels to games, but admitted that, because of the original story he made up for Brutal Legend, there was a lot of material that wouldn't appear in the game.

“You know, this is one game I definitely would not mind making a sequel to,” says Schafer, “just because the original story was about four times as long as the one that's in there now. I tend to write these really, really big things, with many, many subplots and elements, and then I'm like, 'Holy cow, if we want to get this done in three years... let's just tell this first chapter of it.' So there are definitely ideas and characters whose stories would love to be told, and I would love to continue it, yeah. That would be great.”

But don't get your hopes up too high, as he then said that a different project would follow for his team at Double Fine, so a sequel was still very far. “I also like to do the opposite of whatever I did last, and that's good for the team too, because people get sick of working on the same thing. So doing something cute and adorable might be a nice relief after all this blood.”

Brutal Legend places the player in the boots of Eddie Riggs, voiced by Jack Black, who enter a fantasy world based on the whole heavy-metal lifestyle. The former roadie for a band, the main protagonist explores this world filled with some very interesting motifs and characters.

The game is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2009. Hopefully, until then we will find out whether or not a sequel will be made in the future.
