Standing up to represent all women, no matter their size

The world is used by now to seeing only stick-thin models, so much so that even the presence of a small photo in a glossy magazine of a woman who looks just like millions of other ladies around the world is bound to cause massive waves, as we were also telling you. With the anti-fat rhetoric that is getting more virulent by the day, it’s eventually up to plus-size models to draw attention to what beauty should be all about.

For Tiffany Braxton Belvin, a plus-size model with a considerable experience in modeling and beauty pageants and who has just been crowned Ms. New York, beauty is all about acceptance and confidence. When she takes part in the Miss Plus America Pageant in New Orleans, Louisiana, in July 2010, she will make sure the message is made public loud and clear, a statement from her PR to Softpedia reads.

“As the old saying goes, ‘If you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere,’ and Plus Model Tiffany Braxton Belvin proves that she can make it as she represents New York for the national title in the Miss Plus America Pageant, scheduled for July 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Miss Plus America Pageant has three categories of competitions where a winner will be crowned: Miss: Ages 18-29; Ms: Ages 30 & Up; and Mrs.: Ages 20 & Up. Contestants must be natural born females who are beautiful, classy, poised and elegant and at least a size 14W or higher to compete. Categories of competition will include on-stage interview, evening gown, and elegant pant wear.” the statement says.

As per Belvin’s own words, competing in the Miss Plus America has been an old dream of hers, although this pageant is by no means the only competition she took part in. A native New Yorker, Belvin got into modeling with the help of e-zine Belle-Noir and then slowly made her entrance in the modeling industry. As of now, she holds the title of Miss NYC Plus Diva 2008, is the Regional Director for the Miss Black New York USA Pageant and the Executive Producer for The Miss Black Queens NY USA Pageant.

“Miss Plus America is something I wanted to do for a few years. Being Ms. New York Plus America means that I am a representation of all women regardless of size.” Belvin says in the same press statement. The aspiring for the title of Miss Plus America is currently signed with DSE Model & Talent Management.
