Although it's not exactly very popular around the rest of the world, TiVo is the most famous brand of Digital Video Recorder in the United States and each announcement regarding an upcoming TiVo product or service creates quite a buzz among the US readers. This is exactly the case right now, as the company has just announced the launch of its latest DVR, dubbed TiVo HD, a device that provides mid-range features and functions at a very affordable price tag.

Since this thing is so hot for the US consumers, there have been numerous rumors around the Internet regarding its upcoming launch and it would seem that most of them were pretty accurate. Thus, the DVR provides a plethora of functions, including Record, Pause, Rewind and Fast-Forward in HD, is capable of recording two HD channels at once, while watching another recorded show and sports a 160 GB HDD capable of storing up to 20 hours in High Definition (or 180 hours in Standard Definition). Moreover, it sports several output modes, including 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and provides enhanced connectivity features (dual CableCARD support (2 slots), cable coaxial, antenna coaxial, Ethernet connection, 2 USB 2.0 ports, phone line and even E-SATA).

Quite obviously, the device supports the most important services provided by TiVo, as for example Movie & TV downloads via the Amazon Unbox on TiVo (which allows users to download movies and TV shows straight to the TiVo DVR), Universal Swivel Search (a powerful content search feature), TiVoCast for original video programming or the TiVo KidZone, as well as many others.

And considering what this device has to offer, it's no wonder that the company's representatives are boasting about it. "TiVo HD extends the TiVo experience to an even wider audience than ever, giving sports and entertainment enthusiasts the ultimate companion to their HDTV set," said Tom Rogers, CEO and President of TiVo. "It is the ultimate media centerpiece for the living room with the broadest selection of broadband content, right alongside your favorite broadcast and cable programs, giving HDTV viewers more choice and control than they've ever had before. And it can be used in place of the customer's existing cable box."

Right now, the new TiVo HD digital video recorder can be pre-ordered directly from TiVo for 300 US dollars, but it will also be available in August at the most important electronics' retailers around the US for the same price tag.
