Mobile phone carrier Three UK plans on adding to its offering the new Sony Ericsson Xperia ray smartphone that was unveiled today during the ComunicAsia 2011 conference in Singapore.

Only a few hours after Sony Ericsson went official with the launch of this handset, the wireless operator announced that it will be available for its customers in the not too far future, though specific details on the launch were not unveiled for the time being.

“Sony Ericsson has just announced its latest smartphone, the ray. I’m really excited to let you all know that it’ll be coming soon to Three,” Sylvia Chind, head of devices at Three, announced.

The new mobile phone comes to the market with a fast 1GHz application processor, complemented by a 3.3-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a high resolution.

Moreover, the new device runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, wich means full support for the company's mobile services, as well as for various applications available for download via the Android Market.

On the back, the new Xperia ray sports an 8.1-megapixel photo snapper, with auto focus and with support for HD video recording capabilities. The handset also comes with a microSD memory card slot, WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS receiver, and more.

One of the most appealing features the new device packs is Facebook inside Xperia, which debuted earlier this year, on the Xperia mini and mini pro devices.

“For those of you who haven’t used it yet, Facebook Inside is a unique application which fully integrates Facebook throughout your Sony Ericsson phone,” Sylvia Chind explains.

“This means you can “Like” tracks from your music player and keep your phone and Facebook calendar synced so you’ll never miss a friend’s birthday again.”

For the time being, no specific info emerged on when might the new device become available for purchase on Three UK, nor on the price tag it might feature when made available.
