The company is also preparing trials for the LTE technology

Wireless services provider Three UK has just announced plans to upgrade its 3G network to offer enhanced data transfer speeds to its customers.

The company launched UK’s first solely 3G network back in 2003, and is determined to continue investing in it and improve it through new, appealing technology. The carrier notes that its focus is on providing users with a great data experience.

“It was for that reason that last year we invested millions in upgrading our network to the next generation of 3G technology: HSPA+,” Three explains.

“HSPA+ currently runs on the 21Mbps technical standard, meaning people can now experience download speeds in excess of 10Mbps, and in some cases even faster.”

In the United States, HSPA+ is called 4G technology, and the wireless carrier notes that it is about to upgrade its network to this next-gen technology.

Of course, this is not the LTE technology that many other wireless carriers around the world are currently adopting, but it has a lot of offer in terms of speeds and reliability.

Through updating its network to HSPA+, Three UK is gearing up to deliver speeds that can peak 42Mbps. This is double than what the 21Mbps technical standard has to offer.

“HSPA+ “4G” will deliver huge benefits for our customers. The obvious one is speed, with massive improvements in both download and upload speed,” the wireless carrier notes.

“Because the technology uses dual carrier equipment – meaning it can latch onto two signals at the same time and transmit and receive double the data – it will also improve capacity across the network too.”

The company will start the deployment of 42Mbps technology as soon as this summer. At the same time, it will begin trialing Long Term Evolution (LTE) in the next few months, so that it would be ready to have it rolled out as well.
