New CEO aims to figure out what to do with Apotheker's decisions by October's end

HP's decisions during the past few months weren't looked upon with enthusiasm by most of the IT industry, though at least one of them might be reverted, this week even.

The maneuvers that HP chose to make recently have been interpreted in many ways by those involved and onlookers alike.

For the most part, though, people generally felt like the company had shot itself in the foot. Three times.

Once was when it suddenly scrapped the webOS tablet and smartphone plans (not that it worked as planned, what with implied saboteurs that made them ship with Android and such).

A second time was deciding to buy Autonomy (this happened after all) for what was seen as too high a price.

The third and most memorable time was when it said it wanted to back out of the PC market and spin off its division, or sell it.

While the new CEO was chosen because of Apotheker's 'disappointing' decisions, none of said decisions have actually been reverted.

Thus, it isn't clear just what will come of the PC spin-off decision (should be sealed or changed by year's end).

What a recent report does claim is that HP might have something final to say on whether or not it will reconsider its webOS division.

In fact, the answer could come as early as this week, so users might still dare to hope that they haven't seen the last of Palm's invention.

HP itself, naturally, did not comment on the story in any way, so it will still take waiting and seeing for things to become clear.

Either way, the rumor is that the “initial bidding” stage for the smartphone and tablet unit is already finished, so it really is just a matter of time before HP's new CEO, Meg Whitman, dispels the dilemma once and for all.
