That's leagues above what used to be the peak transfer rate

Since we're done with the fastest memory card ever, we may as well take a gander at what may very well become the fastest solid state drive in just as much time: Mushkin's Scorpion Deluxe.

As the title says, the Scorpion Deluxe is a PCI Express solid state drive, which means it goes into one of those slots normally used by video cards or other such things (audio boards, controller adapters, LAN cards, etc.).

In its press release, Mushkin seems genuinely excited about the new product, or at least pleased with it at the very least.

We can understand why. After all, the data transfer speed is of over 1,900 MB/s when writing on it and 2,150 MB/s when reading from it. Those are DDR3 RAM-level speeds.

Capacities are considerable as well. Sure, there are models with 240 GB and 480 GB, but there are 960 GB and 1920 GB drives as well.

All of them boast random performance of 100,000 read and write IOPS (input-output operations per second).

The data density is owed to high-end NAND Flash memory chips, while the performance is sealed by four SandForce SF-2281 controllers. The MTBF is of 1 million hours.

"The Scorpion Deluxe PCIe SSD is a result of the desire to create and produce revolutionary components that maximize performance. We are looking to enhance and accelerate the work process -- be it for creative production or database applications," said Nicolas Villalobos, the director of Global Marketing for Mushkin, Inc.

"We are pleased to be able to add the Scorpion Deluxe PCIe SSD to our existing line of now available innovative technologies."

Mushkin Scorpion Deluxe should start selling by Monday (September 16). No price was specified, but it will be huge for sure. As in of a few thousand dollars, as was the case even before PCIe SSDs gained TRIM and Boot support (and, thus, were pretty much useless in the long run).
