Ashley Greene, who plays Alice Cullen in “The Twilight Saga,” has just landed an interview and photospread with the famed Interview magazine. In the latest issue of the mag, the actress approaches such topics as quitting school to pursue a career in movies and how the sudden wave of attention from “Twilight” almost drove her on the verge of a breakdown.

People often believe that being famous is easy, and this is one of the biggest misconceptions on which the industry is founded. When fame comes at a very young age and, most importantly, when it does so without as much as a heads-up, it can destroy lives, the actress says. This is what almost happened to her, when she found herself overwhelmed by the attention generated in the aftermath of the “Twilight” release.

“There was a moment in time where I was kind of having this mini-breakdown because it was all very new, and it was all being thrown at me really quickly, and I was going, ‘Why are people reporting on this? Why do people care what I’m wearing or what I’m eating, and why are people looking down on me because I’m not wearing high heels?’ That’s the downside to being in the public eye. When girls come up and say, ‘You’re my role model,’ it’s really flattering, but it’s also really scary because I’m not perfect and I’m going to make mistakes. I’ve just decided that I have to continue to live my life and do what I do. Hopefully, people love me because of who I am, not who I pretend to be,” the 22-year-old star tells Interview.

In the same piece, the actress also explains how she grew up in a perfect household – one of which she recently said it was so perfect it would have done wonders in a horror movie – and how her parents had her life sorted out for her from the very start. She went to school and was supposed to study law to become a lawyer, when she suddenly decided she wanted to be an actress. Luckily for her, the Alice Cullen part came to her as if by a lucky chance: the rest is history, as they say, and Ashley was catapulted to international fame in just a few weeks.

“With this film in particular, people have become very passionate about it – about my character, but also about me, really relating to me and wanting to be my best friend. And so they cry, and they get so nervous. […] Most of my fans are really respectful and great. It’s too early for me to be jaded. Ask me in 10 years or something... I just booked a lead in a Warner Brothers film, and probably part of it was because they know that there are all these fans. I mean, hopefully it’s because of my talent, too,” Ashley goes on to say.
