This takes the myth of Icarus to a whole new level

While some claims as to the authenticity of the video above have been raised, it's still a very interesting watch. Apparently, a Dutch engineer named Jarno Smeets was recently able to develop his own, bird-like wings, with which he was able to lift off the ground.

Allegedly, constructing the contraption required about 8 months of hard work, which eventually paid off big time. The jury is still out on whether the video is a fake or not but, even if it is, it does provide some food for thought, Wired reports.

I could not help but think about the myth of Icarus immediately upon seeing the video. The Ancient Greek is said to have built a similar flying devices, from feathers, a wooden frame and glue. He attempted to escape prison with his son, but the latter flew too close to the Sun.

The heat melted the glue holding his wings together, which eventually led to his death. Now that's a parallel.
