14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 10 for phones is under development as we speak, and Microsoft has already released a couple of preview builds to let insiders try them out and send feedback, but in the spirit of BUILD 2015, Redmond has decided to share some photos to indicate what the OS would look like when it’s ready.
Microsoft has said in a blog post today that the Windows 10 Outlook app is undergoing a significant overhaul, so it should look and work much better than it does right now in build 10052.
The hamburger button will remain where it is right now, the company adds, thus putting an end to rumors that it could be replaced with a pivot or something similar before RTM. And there is a reason for this.
“A fly-out menu from the left (that you can get to through the Menu icon or hamburger) is useful to show this relationship between folders and a list of messages and makes it easier to stay oriented to where you are in the app. Although it’s a longer reach for your thumb, we’ve seen that people don’t do this very often,” the company explains.
Greatly improved UI
As you can see for yourselves, the Calendar app in Windows 10 for phones will come with options to make it easier to discover the mini-month view, while phones with larger screens will increase the number of weeks displayed in this mode.
A new week view in landscape is also being developed, but it wasn’t ready for build 10051, the company says, so it should be part of a future technical preview version, most likely coming out in May.
What’s interesting is that the Photos app might indeed drop the hamburger button for a pivot and swiping support so that you can switch between collections and albums more easily and faster.
Needless to say, plenty of these features are going to change as work on Windows 10 for phones advances, and Microsoft encourages everyone to send in feedback to help develop a better platform that addresses their needs in a more effective away.
