Apple rumored to plan the introduction of an uber tablet

With rumors swirling around that Apple is making a bigger iPad to compete with rivals Microsoft and Samsung in the enterprise sector (and not only), a timely video has emerged on YouTube depicting what this uber tablet will actually look like, if it comes to fruition.

The current-selling iPad Air has a screen size that measures 9.7 inches on the diagonal with a 2048-by-1536-pixel resolution at 264 ppi, which makes it a Retina display by Apple standards. We don’t know what the iPad Plus will boast in terms of pixel count or pixel density, but what we do think we know is the screen size: 12.2 inches on the diagonal.

The leaks are coming in

A Japanese magazine published an alleged iPad Pro / iPad Plus schematic last month claiming it to show parts of Apple’s upcoming 12-inch tablet. The blueprint wasn’t too detailed, but it did show something that did look like a device Apple would make. The media caught wind of the leak and made it a thing, but we still can’t say for sure if Apple is indeed making this device.

What these leaks tell us is that there’s a good chance things are moving in that particular direction. Namely that Apple indeed has plans to further flood the market with its lucrative tablet computers, potentially aiming to make a dent in the enterprise sector.

Mockups are rolling in as well

YouTube user Canoopsy took notice of the leak as well. He decided to capitalize on it by creating an actual physical mockup of the tablet and videotape it to show the world how big such a tablet would be.

The video he posted to YouTube – which, at the time of this writing, gathered more than half a million views – shows the mockup against various existing Apple products, including the iPad Air and iPad mini, as well as smaller iDevices, like the iPhone 6 Plus and even the tiny iPhone 5.

Needless to point out, the thing is huge. It still isn’t clear what the iPad Plus would be used for, considering that many people today still can’t put a regular iPad to good use. Nevertheless, there does seem to be some demand for such a product. Bearing the Apple logo always adds some heft, so it will be interesting to see how Apple’s plans to take over the business sector pan out.

One theory involves a keyboard and a hybrid OS that puts key features from OS X and iOS on this device. However, Apple has often maintained that it prefers to keep the two platforms separate.
