Members of the Expedition 30 crew, currently aboard the International Space Station (ISS), took this breathtaking image of Ireland and England, backdropped by the sunrise, and featuring beautiful auroras to the west.

The image shows portions of the two islands during the night, as city lights stretch wide across the horizon, filling the air with a reddish glow. The full extent of urban centers in the United Kingdom is made apparent.

But these lights aren't nearly as bright as the sunrise in the background. Astronauts on the station focused their cameras on a point located at 46.8 degrees north latitude and 14.3 degrees west longitude, and snapped this view on March 28, 2012.

Bright, green auroras are visible in the left-hand half of the image, but they are located at much higher latitudes. So, what do you think? Would you go through years of astronaut training just to see sights such as this one?
