Forget playing the lottery or waiting for scientists to genetically engineer trees that grow cash instead of fruit. Thanks to an outstandingly generous Moldavian businessman by the name of Dmitry Kaminskiy, making a truckload of money is now as simple living to the age of 123.

That's right, this guy is ready and willing to pay the first person to make it to the esteemed age of 123 a jaw-dropping $1 million (€0.94 million). Whether or not the lucky winner will actually get to enjoy having this much money isn't the kind of thought to keep Dmitry Kaminskiy up at night.

Why pay people to live for as long as possible?

In an interview, the businessman explained that, when offering the $1 million (€0.94 million) to the first person to make it to 123, he merely hoped to inspire people to take advantage of recent advances in the field of biotechnology to live life to the fullest. Or, better said, longest.

“They may not realize it, but some of the super-centenarians [people over the age of 110] alive today may see the dawn of the next century if they live long enough for these transformative technologies to develop,” the Moldavian businessman said.

“I hope that my prize will help some of them desire longer lifespans and make their approaches to living longer a little more competitive,” Dmitry Kaminskiy went on to comment on his decision to set up this cash prize for longevity, as cited by Oddity Central.

Interestingly, businessman Dmitry Kaminskiy happens to be one of the senior partners of the Hong Kong-based venture capital fund management company Deep Knowledge Ventures, which focuses on biotechnology companies preoccupied with fighting aging.

The guy even has a wager on how long he'll live

As it turns out, Dmitry Kaminskiy intends to live fairly long himself. In fact, he's so confident that he will succeed in his endeavor that, earlier this year, he made a bet with Alex Zhavoronkov, the CEO of anti-company Insilico Medicine Inc., over who would get to celebrate his 100th birthday.

In case anyone was wondering, businessmen Dmitry Kaminskiy and Alex Zhavoronkov agreed on a $1 million (€0.94 million) in stock prize for whoever of them ends up winning this rather peculiar bet.
