SyFy is sitting on a pile of gold with its hilariously bad but very original idea for “Sharknado,” so expect it to turn it into a proper TV franchise. The first film was a huge hit when it aired last year, so the network is now preparing for another one.

“Sharknado 2: The Second One” is set to drop on July 30, and from this new extended preview embedded below, you can tell the kind of ride you’re in for. This looks exceptionally bad – the “I made this kind of movies when I was a student and had a vary lame camera and was goofing around with my drunk friends, pretending to be actors” kind of bad.

The preview shows a group of people seeking refuge from the tornado dropping live sharks all over New York on a train in the subway. While Ian Ziering and Mark McGrath sit there reminiscing, they’re attacked by – what else? – furious sharks.

Always the hero, Ian decides to remain behind to save everyone else. An admirable gesture, but let’s hope it doesn't cost him too much.

“Sharknado 2: The Second One” also stars Tara Reid, Kelly Osbourne, Vivica A. Fox and Judd Hirsch. I am somewhat ashamed to say I also recognized gossip blogger Perez Hilton as one of the extras on that platform, so yes, he’s starring in it too.

The film is directed by Anthony C. Ferrante, and if what happened with the original and the buzz online are any indication, it will probably be a hit. Grab your raincoat and an axe or something, and enjoy the ride!
