“Thin Ice” is just one of those movies that hit the festival circuit, receive only praises but then take a long while to go mainstream. The first trailer for it is now out so you too can see what to expect from it.
With a (limited) release date set for February 17, 2012, “Thin Ice” stars Greg Kinnear, Billy Crudup, and Alan Arkin as the leads of a very unlikely, suspenseful, unexpected but fun adventure.
Kinnear plays a small-time insurance agent in desperate need for money. He's also trying to win back his estranged wife who, of course, wants to have nothing to do with a loser like him.
He stumbles upon unforeseen “luck” and, in a bid to make some quick cash, he steals a violin from one of the men he's trying to sell an insurance policy to, a retired farmer (Arkin).
Unfortunately, he also enters a partnership with an ex-con with an extremely volatile temper (Crudup), who threatens to ruin everything.
Blending dark comedy and delirious Midwestern noir, Thin Ice reaches a breaking point that no one – least of all Mickey Prohaska [Kenner] – could ever see coming,” the official synopsis reads.
