Thief developer Eidos Montreal has talked a bit more about its upcoming reboot of the stealth franchise and emphasized that it "doesn't take gamers for idiots," as it will challenge them in many ways.

Thief games have allowed players a lot of freedom when it came to overcoming challenges, obstacles, and staying undetected.

For the new Thief title, while Eidos Montreal is rebooting the narrative with a new version of Garrett and a fresh set of adventures for the master thief, the studio wants to keep that same challenging nature that will make players think about their actions.

"Fans of the original Thief will be relieved to find the ingredients that made it one of the most respected franchises in the industry. The game doesn’t take gamers for idiots, it’s far from easy, and you can complete it without killing a single enemy or even being seen," the studio mentioned on the PS blog.

Eidos also emphasized that newcomers to the franchise will have a great time and receive a great experience that will show just how important the Thief franchise is.

"But it is not only designed with long-time fans of the series in mind. A new generation of gamers will also have a chance to discover why Thief, one of the founding fathers of the stealth genre is so well-loved, to explore the rich lore of The City and to experiment with a different style of gameplay that emphasizes thoughtfulness and patience as well as skills and reflexes."

"We respect players. I know it sounds like empty pandering, but we really do take it to heart. We’ve given you a huge amount of options to customize your experience to enable you to play exactly as you prefer."

The new Thief title is out at the end of February for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
