George Clooney was targeted by a burglar who attempted to break his way into the actor's Italian villa on the banks of the picturesque Lake Como. The villa is rumored to be the place where Clooney is going to marry his fiancée, the human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, in just a few months.

The Telegraph reports that the thief broke onto the villa grounds but didn't succeed in making off with some expensive loot. Ironically, the man found only a bottle of wine in a small alcove and then tried to force his way into the luxurious house.

Unfortunately for him, he was spotted by a member of the actor's staff, who immediately decided the matter should be resolved by the local police – the Carabinieri. The British newspaper reports that the alleged thief was a 29-year-old Romanian.

When confronted by police forces, the man tried to fight them off with the wine bottle, but his gesture turned out to be futile since he was immediately overpowered by officers and taken into custody in the nearby town of Como, where he was also promptly charged with theft.

It should be mentioned that Clooney was not at the villa when the attempted robbery took place, but there has been wide speculation in the press that he has plans to make his Italian lakeside mansion the place where he gets married to the Anglo-Lebanese human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin.

The wedding is said to be taking place this September and comes as a shock to everyone, since Clooney has managed to maintain the image of the eternal bachelor for most of his career and expressed his distaste for married life on a number of previous occasions.

After many relationships with actresses, models, and reality stars, Clooney seems to have found a kindred spirit in the London-based lawyer, who has an Oxford education and shares the same passion for humanitarian work like Clooney.

The couple have already been on a holiday in the last couple of months, which has taken them to the Seychelles and Tanzania, and have recently made public their engagement. Since then, Amal has returned to work in London, and George is reported to be on the market for a home in town so that he can be closer to her.

It is not known if this recent break-in will lead the actor to change his mind about the wedding venue. There has been talk of having the ceremony at one of his other properties, which is located in a picturesque region of Mexico.
