If we're gonna be honest here, we have to admit that wind turbines are not all that pretty to look at. Sure, they work wonders for the environment, but this does not change the fact that few would want to have one spinning right next to their bedroom window.
Hoping to solve this problem, greenheads with a company dubbed New Wind developed a new generation of wind turbines that look nothing like the ones we are accustomed to. On the contrary, these turbines look very much like trees.
As detailed by Tree Hugger, the installations, images of which are available next to this article, measure some 36 feet (nearly 11 meters) in height. They each pack a total of 72 so-called artificial leaves that rotate whenever the wind blows through them and thus produce energy.
French entrepreneur Jérôme Michaud-Larivière, who came up with the design for these tree-like wind turbines, explains that, for the time being, the installations have an energy output of 3.1 kW. What this means is that they can serve to power street lights and the like.
The designer goes on to argue that the best thing about these clean energy installations is the fact that, when compared with their bigger siblings, they produce no noise whatsoever. Hence, folks can't go around complaining about how they can't sleep because of them.
The greenheads behind New Wind hope that some day, hopefully in the not too distant future, such tree-like clean energy installations will become part and parcel of urban landscapes all around the world. This would help keep even a wee amount of greenhouse emissions from reaching Earth's atmosphere.
