Microsoft hasn't changed the default Windows 10 icons

Windows 10 build 10036 got leaked yesterday, so we can now have a closer look at the work Microsoft has been doing in the last two months, even though the company itself hasn't released a new build to Windows insiders.

One of the most controversial debates lately concerns the icons that Microsoft implemented in build 9926 and which completely changed the face of Windows, but not in a way that pleased users.

For Windows 10, Microsoft appears to be going in a direction that entirely relies on simple and flat icons, thus stepping away from the shiny and pretty beautiful icons that were used in Windows 7. With Windows 10, Microsoft goes all-in on a flat design, so icons follow the same approach.

In Windows 10 build 10036, Microsoft hasn't actually changed the default icons, but instead added a few new ones, thus going in the very same direction, despite the fact that it promised that some things could change before the operating system hits the final stage of development. It seems, however, that new icons aren't yet ready, if Microsoft is indeed planning to update the OS in this regard.

The "ugly" Recycle Bin icon is still there

Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, has said that the icons that are currently in Windows 10 Technical Preview are part of a very early UI, suggesting that at some point in the future they could change with fresh and more modern-looking ones.

The only problems is that nearly two months have passed since the last Windows 10 build came out and the very same icons show up on the desktop, including the very criticized Recycle Bin icon.

Truth is, when some items are already in trash, the Recycle Bin icon doesn't look that bad, but if you're the kind of user who Shift-deletes everything, the empty Recycle Bin design isn't really appealing.

Obviously, the new icons that are part of Windows 10 can be changed with a very simple trick, so let's just hope that Microsoft gets everything else right and the only thing it messes up is the icon pack.
