Not a tough sell

With the release date quickly nearing Activision, as the publisher, and Infinity Ward, as the developer, have released the minimum system requirements for those players who are interested in picking up Modern Warfare 2 on the good-old PC. The follow-up to the 2007 best-seller is also coming to the PlayStation 3 from Sony and to the Xbox 360 from Microsoft on November 10.

Those who are interested in playing need to make sure that they have at least a Pentium 4 processor from Intel running at 3.2 Ghz or an AMD Athlon 64 chip, which has the 3200+ designation. Infinity Ward 2 says that the game will run fine on configurations that only have 1 GB of RAM memory, but that's probably optimistic, given the load of the operating system and the fact that most players have some programs running in the background.

As far as the graphics go, players will need either an Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT card with 256 MB of RAM or an ATI Radeon 1600 XT at a minimum. Modern Warfare 2 is set to take up a massive 12 GB worth of hard drive. A DirectX 9.0c sound card is also needed, along with an Internet connection for activation and a broadband pipe for all those who are interested in multiplayer games.

Infinity Ward is warning gamers that Modern Warfare 2 is designed to be played on Windows XP, Vista or the new Windows 7, with older versions of the Microsoft OS not being supported. It's not clear how much support for DirectX 11, which comes with Windows 7, is intended.

Recently, the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 was hit by controversy, with the developers announcing that dedicated server support would be eliminated from the game in favor of a new IWNet system that was set to allow for a better connectivity, a faster game set-up and less hacked mutiplayer matches. Most PC gamers rejected the move and started asking for dedicated servers to be brought back.
