Laptop coolers aren't really necessary, but they can be very useful when you feel like your lap is about to burst into flames after just half an hour of use. Especially when your laptop is a mighty gaming beast.

That is why the market for laptop cooling stands continues to be as healthy as ever, and why companies like Thermaltake go to so much trouble to vary and improve their designs.

The new product from Thermaltake is called Massive V20, since it is part of the Massive series.

This is one of those things that will cope with the heat generated by even the most feisty of gaming notebooks and mobile workstations.

The first hint, not counting the name, is the size that lets it support laptops of up to 17 inches in diagonal.

The second hint is the sheer diameter of the single fan: 200 mm. You don't easily go larger than that, even in high-end desktops.

And as if the size and inherent air pushing ability wasn't enough, Thermaltake went one step further and made the fan silent as well, giving it adjustable rotary speed and everything.

Then, there's the aluminum mesh, which allows optimum air travel (hexagon shape for maximized airflow) and dissipates whatever heat is being given off by those parts of the notebook underside that it is in direct contact with.

A USB cable is used to draw power from the notebook. The energy of a single link is sufficient for the fan when moving at full speed, as well as the blue LED light.

Finally, Thermaltake included a unique USB cable management and extender system, allowing easy organization and extension.

The Massive V20 laptop cooler should be up for order soon, if it isn't already, at the price of $19.99, or €14.52, according to exchange rates.
