Alongside the 1KW and 1,2KW models

Just when I was beginning to think that I finally escaped the nightmare called ?CES Coverage?, I ran across Thermaltake?s webpage. And then I remembered that they had an impressive booth at CES where you could see some crazy stuff. And I?m not just talking about cases here (although I saw some really nice ones) but it?s the PSU line that caught my attention.

Many of you may know a thing or two about the Toughpower line. What you probably don?t know is that the 850W unit has lost the Nr. 1 spot. Because Thermaltake has showcased three new PSUs rated at a peak power of 1000, 1200 and 1500W. The first two are available now (you can check their website for additional details), while the 1500W PSU will probably come out in July.

All three PSUs integrate the new 8-pin PCIE connector that will be needed for PCIE 2.0 cards but they also come with 6 pin adapters needed for the classical 6-pin header found on the VGA cards. The 850W version has 2 of these adapters and 2 6-pin ones while the 1KW and 1,2KW have 3 8-pin headers and 3 6-pin ones. The 1500W version will pack 4 8-pin connectors and 4 6-pin ones making it suitable for quad SLI operation.

Speaking of which, all PSUs are 8800 SLI certified and are also pseudo-modular (all cables excepting the ATX, 4+4 and 8 pin CPU connectors are fully detachable). So the race for the biggest PSU is once again on and we?ve already got about 10 models that can sustain output wattage of over 1KW. I wonder what?s going to come out next.
