Especially aimed at LAN party enthusiasts

Thermaltake has been making waves on the computer chassis market over the past couple of months, with the biggest of those waves being generated, no doubt, by the Level 10 full-tower chassis, whose flaming version was shown off in style at CeBIT 2010. Now that the tide is settling in and preparing for another round, the company is readying something more mainstream, namely a computer case that seeks to bring portability to a mid-tower form factor. The product is known as the V5 Black Edition.

As the name implies, the new product is completely coated in black, both on the outside, as well as the inside. The case is essentially aimed at end-users that like to frequent LAN parties, which is also why it has certain design elements that make it look stylish.

For instance, the side panel has a transparent window and the top panel has a large 200mm LED fan. There is also a sturdy handle on top, which allows the chassis, and the system it houses, to be easily transported. This is very convenient for systems based on micro-ATX or standard ATX motherboards.

The specifications of the desktop mid-tower case include nine 5.25-inch bays, a bottom-placed holder for the power supply (protected by a dust filter), a drive case that can accommodate both 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch storage units and a front I/O panel with eSATA, audio and USB ports. The rear of the case also features a 120mm fan with a speed of 1,300RPM.

The Thermaltake V5 Black Edition measures 508 (H) x 223 (W) x 490 (D) mm (20.3 x 8.78 x 19.3 inches), weighs 7.1kg, is accompanied by a three-year warranty and has already been listed with a rather decent price of $69. Full information may be found on its official product page.
