The Department of Energy and Climate Change in the United Kingdom estimates that, for the time being, solar panels adorn at least 500,000 buildings across the country.

Thus, in a recent report, the Department details that, by this year's January 5, 499,687 solar schemes were implemented in the United Kingdom, and that 478,875 of them surely rest on domestic rooftops.

What's more, it argues that the country is very likely to have passed the 500,000 mark in recent days, The Guardian explains.

According to specialists working with the Department, the over 500,000 solar schemes were set in place under the feed-in tariff scheme intended to support the installation of solar arrays whose capacity is smaller than 50kW.

However, some argue that the folks living in this country started adding solar panels to their homes long before the feed-in tariff scheme made its debut.

Presently, the United Kingdom adds an average of 1,900 such solar schemes on a weekly basis. The country aims to have 1 million homes fitted with solar panels by the year 2015.
