It is estimated that the cheapening announced by LCD monitor producers will reduce the costs of computer systems.

The DisplaySearch analysis company announces that in the next two years, the production costs for LCDs will decrease with 62. Adding this to the general trend of component and peripheral price reduction, it's possible that by the end of next year we will be able to buy 17 inch LCD monitors for 150 USD.

Last year, this type of monitors recorded a 50% sale increase, amounting to 36 billion USD, and this growing trend will also continue this year, when the value of the TFT LCD market will reach 43 billions.

However, at the end of last year, users preferred the acquiring of gaming systems or consoles to buying LCDs. Jin Kim, analyst within DisplaySearch, declared that this trend was overcome by the massive investments from the last years.

Because of carefully revised strategies, producers are able now to manufacture and retail much faster the new models of monitors, and the quantities ensure an excellent circulation rate even for the main retailing markets.

Adoption of LCD monitors as replacements for CRT ones are confirmed by global sale reports which show that out of 10 monitors sold, 6 are LCDs. In this way, liquid crystal displays represent 57% of the monitor market, whose number of units reached in the last trimester of 2004 37 million units.
