Without the help of a computer

The iPod is by far the most popular portable digital audio player on the market, and it's no wonder that just about everyone is trying to come up with all sorts of accessories for Apple's player, each capable of carrying out certain more or less useful functions. And one such device is the iWay presented by Herrington Catalog, an adapter that will allow users to upload photos onto their player (unfortunately, only the iPod video) without having to connect it first to a computer.

The device is compatible with SD memory cards (the most popular format in the case of consumer-grade digital cameras) and works much in the same way as an external card reader. Thus, all the users have to do is insert the memory card into the device and start uploading. After uploading, they can either retain the images on the SD card, or "erase the card" to free up space for new photos.

Although it seems to be a pretty interesting device, the iWay does pose a couple of problems. First of all, the actual size of the iPod's display is not exactly huge, and quite a large number of digital cameras available on the market have bigger LCD screens than that. Moreover, the device only works with SD cards, which means that all users whose cameras are compatible with other types of cards (CompactFlash, Memory Stick, etc.) will find this thing rather useless.

However, it seems that the retailer has some pretty high hopes for this adapter. Thus, the iWay comes in 2 color choices, either black or white, in order to match the two dominant colors of the iPod. The device retails for around 70 US dollars, which is really a very high price to pay for such a device, especially since its level of utility is questionable at best.
