On the long list of "ways to improve the iPhone", adding TV Out to the handset is the latest. This time, it might just happen from Apple's initiative and not that of a hacker looking to receive some attention through the most popular device at this time.

Apple has released two iPhone upgrades up to this point, although they have made little difference and managed mostly to make the handset more secure against hacking threats. Rumors state that a major upgrade is on its way, looking to make the handset capable of putting its images and videos on TV sets anywhere.

We would have expected to see this coming from hackers rather than Apple, as they have been playing with the handset's capabilities more than anyone else. George Hotz, the 17 year-old hacker that has managed to unlock the iPhone, has stated that he has many other plans of making the device even more capable. One of them was that of putting GPS technology in it, making the TV Out performance sound less impressive.

The Apple Store page or the component AV cables shows both the iPod touch and the iPhone as supported devices. Up to this point, only the iPod classic has this capability, far from being the case of these two other devices to be capable of this too. The reason for this must be the new iPod touch that Apple has recently released. The music player highly resembled the iPhone, which gives reason for the company's decision to put TV Out support in both devices, if the latest one is capable of providing.

Apple has modified the page in the meanwhile, leaving only iPod nano 3rd generation, the iPod classic and iPod touch on the page for the AV cable. There was no reason to do otherwise, as the iPhone is not TV Out enabled. Yet.
