The ant-like humans can now be observed in motion from space

Filmed on the International Space Station (ISS), the first full-color HD videos of Earth have roughly 1 meter resolution and can cover areas of up to 1.19 x 0.67 miles (1.92 x 1.08 km).

Filmed by Iris, Urthecast’s cutting-edge camera mounted on the ISS can bring civilian observation topography to a new level. Being accessible to civilians, while it will probably also be mounted on future civilian satellites, it can certainly bring a whole new level of accuracy and area orientation.

You can’t but feel extremely small when you see cars, vans and trucks be the size of dots moving around city lanes in a daily buzz of normal work. Capturing cities like Boston, Barcelona and London, Urthecast managed to reveal us what civilian satellite imagery has become nowadays. One can only imagine what the military holds right now in terms of spying technology.

Wade Larson, UrtheCast Co-founder, President and Chief Operating Officer, hopes that the Initial Operation Capability (IOC) of the Iris camera will be achieved in summer of 2015, complementing the existing Medium-Resolution Camera (MRC), Theia, which is already in operation, reaching the IOC status in 2014, and is actively filling orders for imagery and data.

Looking at those videos, one can only think how small and insignificant we all are as human beings in the enormity of not only our planet, but the whole Universe.
