The Movie Machine from Germany

The DVD rental business is a pretty successful one, as there are quite a lot of people who would rather see a movie on their home-theater and then return it, than buy it altogether, especially in the cases when the movie in question is not exactly a cinematographic masterpiece. And that's why one store in particular, from Munich, Germany, has taken the rental process to the next level and installed what they claim to be the world's first automatic DVD rental machine with biometric identification system.

Indeed, this machine offers some pretty interesting features. First of all, it works 24/7, so you can go pick up a movie even in the dead of night. Then, it works with a special card the user has to purchase from the store, and movies can even be reserved online then picked-up whenever the user happens to go by the machine. The machine sports a very user-friendly control interface and, as mentioned before, it also features a biometric identification system (namely, a fingerprint reader) so that only the actual owner of a registered card will be able to make the DVD withdrawal. This safety measure is aimed especially at preventing kids or young people from renting X-rated movies, and is doubled by another measure, that of removing the aforementioned categories of movies from the list posted online. However, anyone can return the rented movie(s), since this action doesn't require the use of the biometric system.

The payment system is also quite an interesting one. Thus, the users only have to pay for signing-up with the DVD store, and also a small fee for the disc's insurance, while the payment of the DVDs is actually carried out after their return. This system is quite an interesting one, and I really hope that it will become more popular and find its place in an increasing number of DVD rental stores.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
