The Witness, the next independent puzzle game from developer Jonathan Blow, confirms that it will be around 10 times bigger than Braid, his previous title, and can be completed from anywhere between 6 and 50 hours, depending on your skills and completion requirements.

Jonathan Blow made a name for himself with Braid quite a few years ago, delivering a stellar puzzle platformer experience that delighted millions of fans and really showed that small, independent titles can be much better than even full-fledged triple-A experiences.

For some time now, Blow has been working on a new puzzle game called The Witness, which essentially puts players on an island filled with all sorts of different puzzles and challenges. The game is still in development but things are coming to fruition.

The Witness speedrun requires at least 6+ hours

In order to further promote the game, Blow organized a speedrun for The Witness and offered the results on Twitter.

According to the developer, the game can be completed in a minimum of 6 hours, 20 minutes and 36 seconds, although it can increase as some things are still being added to the game in terms of content.

Bear in mind that this is a speedrun made by the game's creator, who knows his way through the puzzles, map, and mechanics.

Reaching 100% completion needs 50+ hours

Blow was quick to emphasize the huge nature of the title, saying that those who want 100% completion would have to spend 50+ hours in The Witness, although that figure might also increase depending on what other things would be added to the title.

The developer also says that, in broad strokes, The Witness is about 10 times bigger than Braid, at least when it comes to speedrun times. He completed Braid in 38 minutes, while The Witness needed 380 minutes, so regular players should expect a lot of impressive content in the upcoming independent experience.

The Witness is expected to debut on the PC and PS4 platforms later this year.
