The Witcher has been one of the most popular PC RPGs (Role Playing Games) of the last period, winning over quite a lot of fans with its engaging story, inspired from a Polish comic book, and its well-polished gameplay mechanics.

It has recently been announced that a console version will be launched, entitled The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf, which will be host to a variety of changes, ranging from the fact that it will allow the characters to perform new moves to enhanced graphics. CD Projekt, the company responsible for the game, has really made it clear that this new title won't be just a port, that it will bring a lot of new features to console RPG fans.

Tom Ohle, one of the executives from CD Projekt, recently talked with GameCyte about the upcoming title and stated that gamers might even get a variety of DLC (Downloadable Content) which would take the console experience even further, in terms of story and gameplay. Ohle then went on to say that the game would be a very different experience from the PC and that we would get to see quite a lot of new things.

“We’re not just slapping together a port and are actually making a game built from the ground up to be an amazing console RPG,” said Ohle, “We’ve gone back and motion-captured a lot more combat animations for the new combat actions, like parries, counter-attacks, enhanced evasion, special attacks, etc. We’re also enhancing the enemy AI to make them more aggressive and perform a wide range of offensive and defensive actions to make the combat a bit more action-oriented.”

All in all, some very interesting pieces of news, which are sure to make quite a lot of console RPG fans pretty interested in this future title. As of yet, no official release date has been established by CD Projekt for this game, but we might expect it in late 2009, just in time for the holiday season. Until then, gamers will have to settle with the PC for experiencing Geralt's adventures.
