Promises developer

CD Projekt Red surprised a lot of players with their role playing game The Witcher and with the amount of work they put in supporting it, going so far as actually releasing a new Edition of the game, which fixed most of the issues players reported and updating the graphics and mechanics.

Now, the development team is working on a sequel, with the subtitle Assassins of Kings, set to appear in the first quarter of 2011 and one of the promises they are making is not to include any of the fetch quests ubiquitous in modern day role playing games.

The promise is linked to the “extensive non-linearity within advanced gameplay mechanics” that will be at the core of the game. CD Projekt Red is saying that Grealt, the witcher from the previous videogame, will return to the center of the story as he aims to find out who is killing the leader of the Northern Kingdom and what the overall aim of their actions is.

The romance options will also be more mature and complex than in the first Witcher videogame, saying love is “introduced in a much more realistic, involving and mature way, thanks to which relationships are presented more credibly than in TW1.” Geralt will be able to get allies as the game progresses, with most of them opening up more tactical options in the tougher fights.

CD Projekt is also saying that The Witcher II will be the best looking role playing videogame on the market when it launches, beating such rivals like the next installment of the Dragon Age: Origins franchise, which Electronic Arts is also planning for early 2011. At the moment, the developers are only talking about launching it on the PC although rumors about a home console move for the series have been going around for a while.
